Update July 2013
With five of the group’s members joining Wigan 10 Foto Club in the spring of 2013, it was decided that the group has now fulfilled its original brief but was no longer viable in terms of numbers of members being able to get to meetings. It was decided that we would continue to compete in the PSA International Interclub competitions until the end of the 2012-2013 season and then disband. Some of the members will form a similar group at Chorley PS for those Chorley members who want to continue in a specialist group. We held a farewell meeting in Oldham and celebrated the successes that we have had over the years.
How did Impact Group get its name?
One of our members came up with “Images Made Photographically, Aided by Computer Technology…” or something like that. Hence IMPACT.
Who are we?
We are a group of friends in the north west of England, all experienced photographers who are members of photographic clubs/societies and most have already reached various levels of achievement in the photographic community. Some of us are photographic judges and lecturers…some are creative photographers and others are dedicated to achieving high levels of traditional work. We would all like to take our photography to even higher levels of achievement. Working together as a group, our aim is to raise our own standards by sharing and discussing our work and entering into competitive external exhibitions. To that end, we hold monthly appraisal meetings at the North Chadderton Conservative Club.
Most of us already exhibit at national and international level. Our expectation is to compete successfully with photographers from all over the world via FIAP internationals (International Federation of Photographic Art) and nationally in BPE Exhibitions (British Photographic Exhibitions). Some members also hold distinctions of the PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) and/or the RPS (Royal Photographic Society).
Links are provided to members’ web sites/flickr groups.
At the moment, group membership is by invitation only.
We decided not to join our local Federation of camera clubs. We are all members of other clubs and did not want our Impact Group membership to interfere with our club affiliations. In 2009, we joined the Photographic Society of America (PSA) as an international club and take part in their international club competitions in the CPID and EID Divisions. Now that those divisions have been merged, we compete in the PID IIC and PID CIC competitions.
